creating my grandfather’s cat
When her grandfather passed away, Angela adopted his 14-year-old cat, Mackenzie. Knowing the options were either to adopt her or take her to a shelter, she chose to adopt her in December 2019.
When she realized many seniors worry about what will happen to their animals, she decided to create My Grandfather’s Cat as the solution. She created an innovative rehoming service where the organization utilizes social media to find adopters, without the use of fosters or a shelter system, allowing the animals to stay with their human to provide comfort and companionship up until the very last day.
She launched the organization on May 18, 2021, her grandfather’s birthday. In just three years, the organization has found more than 350 second forever homes. As seniors’ pets are often seniors themselves, the organization often rehomes cats that are 17+ and have health conditions such as diabetes.
As the goal of the organization is to help seniors keep their pets up until the last day possible, Angela has since expanded the organization to provide a pet pantry to help low-income seniors feed their pets. The program is called My Grandmother’s Pet Pantry, which launched on February 20, 2024, her grandmother’s birthday. The program ships the pet food the animal eats directly to their door. It has provided food for more than 500 animals to date.
When she’s not saving cats, Angela is likely finding ways to sneak them into conversation or attempting to leave gatherings early to spend time with her own cat, Bo, who she adopted through MGC.
